Independent Help for Stalled and Failing Projects
When a software project stalls, misses deadlines or keeps breaking, the cost is more than the budget. It holds back your operations, your customers and your team. Microknot steps in to assess the situation honestly, stabilise what matters most and take over delivery so the project gets finished properly.
We take over projects from offshore vendors, freelancers, agencies that have closed and internal teams that have lost key people. Our Sydney based architects lead every rescue, so you deal directly with senior people who understand both the code and the business impact.
Signs your project needs rescuing
- Deadlines keep moving and nobody can give you a reliable launch date
- Every new release breaks something that used to work
- Your developer has gone quiet, left the business or ended the contract
- Costs keep rising but the list of finished features is not growing
- You do not have access to your source code, hosting or documentation
- The system is live, but slow, insecure or unable to handle more users
- Your team has lost confidence in the product and is working around it
If two or more of these sound familiar, an independent review now will cost far less than continuing on the current path.
How our rescue process works
1. Secure access and assets
We help you recover and secure what you own: source code repositories, hosting and cloud accounts, domains, databases, third party services and documentation. Nothing else moves until your business controls its own assets.
2. Technical audit
Our architects review the code quality, architecture, security, performance, hosting, data and test coverage. We also review what was promised against what was delivered.
3. Rescue report and options
Within two to three weeks, you receive a plain English report covering what can be kept, what must be fixed, what should be rebuilt, and the risks of each path. We give you clear options with time and cost estimates, so you can make a confident decision.
4. Stabilise
We fix critical bugs, close security gaps, set up monitoring and backups, and put proper deployment processes in place. The goal is a stable system your business can rely on while longer term work is planned.
5. Take over and complete delivery
Our team takes ownership of the roadmap and delivers in short sprints with fortnightly demos, so you see progress quickly and regain confidence in the project.
6. Support and improve
Once the project is back on track, we provide ongoing support, maintenance and enhancements, or hand over cleanly to your internal team with full documentation.
Systems we take over
We specialise in Microsoft technologies, including .NET, .NET Framework, ASP.NET, C#, SQL Server and Azure, and also take over projects built with Angular, React, Node.js, PHP, React Native and Flutter.
Common takeovers include:
- Business systems and internal portals
- SaaS platforms and customer facing web applications
- iOS and Android apps
- ERP, CRM and ecommerce integrations
- MVPs that need to be made production ready
- Legacy applications that no developer is willing to support

Frequently asked questions
Can you take over a software project from another developer?
Yes. Microknot regularly takes over projects from other agencies, freelancers and offshore vendors. We start by securing access to your code and systems, then audit the project and recommend whether to continue, refactor or rebuild.
How long does a software project rescue take?
The initial audit and rescue report usually takes two to three weeks. Stabilising critical issues typically takes a further two to six weeks, depending on the size and condition of the system.
What if we do not have the source code?
We will help you work out what you are entitled to, and recover what can be recovered from hosting accounts, repositories and backups. If the code cannot be recovered, we can rebuild using your live system and data as the reference.
How much does a software audit and rescue cost?
The cost depends on the size of the system. We provide a fixed price for the audit and rescue report before any work starts, so you know your commitment upfront.
Do we have to keep working with you after the audit?
No. The rescue report is yours to keep. You can use it with your internal team or another provider.
